Discontinued Connector Replacement Guide

The EOL letter arrives before your product retires

Across the connector industry, large manufacturers have been discontinuing legacy card and I/O connector lines — CompactFlash sockets, older SIM formats, Mini-B USB, Memory Stick — while the industrial equipment designed around them keeps shipping and needs service parts for years. An end-of-life notice on a connector is a sourcing problem, not a redesign order: the board footprint is fixed, the enclosure is tooled, and requalifying a different footprint costs far more than the part ever will.

What KINGCONN still manufactures

KINGCONN keeps legacy families in the catalog precisely for this demand: CompactFlash sockets (durability to 10,000 cycles), Mini PCI sockets (6.7mm/6.8mm heights), USB Mini-B (5-position, 0.80mm pitch) and Micro-B, Memory Stick sockets (see the continued-supply guide), D-Sub in 9 to 37 positions, and mini / micro SIM sockets. Every published specification value carries its source engineering drawing.

How replacement sourcing works

Send any of: the discontinued part's number, its drawing, or a physical sample. KINGCONN evaluates three paths, in order of cost: an existing catalog part that already matches; a modification of existing tooling; or a footprint-identical custom development (design in Taoyuan, production in Suzhou, tooling made and owned in-house, under ISO 9001:2015). The goal in every path is the same: your board does not change.

Qualifying a second source before you need it

The cheapest time to qualify a second source is while your current supply still flows — dual-sourcing a connector on a shipping product removes the single-supplier risk without a crisis. Paste a part number into the Second Source Finder, or send the numbers you consider at risk to service@kingconn.com.tw — the Taoyuan R&D team will tell you which already have a match in tooling.
