What is a card socket with positioning post?

A positioning post (boss) is a cylindrical peg moulded into the underside of the housing that drops into a matching hole in the PCB: it locates the connector mechanically before reflow so the solder tails land on the pads, and parts without a post rely on placement accuracy and the pads alone.

When to choose card sockets with positioning post

Choose a part with post when the assembly line needs mechanical location, or when card insertion applies side load to the connector.
Choose a part without post (description: No Post / Postless) when the PCB has no room for locating holes.
Post diameter and hole spacing are defined on the drawing of each part page; where the description states the post pitch (as on CF headers) it is shown in the description.
